Waldy & The Ghostbuster

When you toss into an artist’s magic blender one part artistic genius and one part Hollywood movie icon you come up with the sale of a wild, otherworldly work of art where both men find a kind of peace that soothes each of their creative souls. Such is the outcome of the recent acquisition by famed Ghostbusters film star Dan Aykroyd who purchased one of St. Croix artist Waldemar “Waldy” Broadhurst’s world renowned wire sculptures.

Aykroyd, who hails from Ottawa, Canada, is perhaps most famous for being one of the driving forces behind the enormously successful Ghostbusters movie franchise. The multi-talented actor has led a storied career that includes an Oscar nomination for Driving Miss Daisy, his legendary performance with beloved comedian John Belushi in the classic Blues Brothers movie, along with his participation in the Grammy Award winning song “We Are The World.” and his role as Executive Producer of the touching and informative Blues documentary, “Born In Chicago.”

“Waldy’s wire works hit me in such a fun and fanciful way,” said Aykroyd. “The guy is pure genius.”

Waldy is known far and wide on St. Croix and throughout the universal arts community as being a singular artist whose vision transcends earth’s gravity. His unique wire sculptures appear to float in their own dimension, somewhere between terra firma and the upper stratosphere. He has become one of the bedrocks of the STX arts community with his close association with Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts (CMCArts), the stalwart hub of all things art on St. Croix.

“I love creating works that people can enjoy and think about in numerous ways,” Waldy told the St. Croix Times. “Nothing makes me happier than lifting someone’s spirits through art.”
