The Institutions No Bones Cafe

No Bones Cafe is a favored hang-out for local politicos, government employees, business movers and shakers and a constant flow of Christiansted locals. The storied restaurant and bar sits in a prime location in Gallows Bay across from the QE IV Ferry dock and benefits from the constant activity that runs in and around the harbor of St. Croix’s busiest shipping waterway.
The moment you step inside the spacious space you can not only feel a sense of local warmth and a sort of foodie heaven excitement, but the place exudes a great deal of class that no doubt comes from the loving touch of its ever-present owner and proprietor, Chuck Vouros, a New York transplant and dedicated New England Patriots fan. Mr. Vouros often stops by the tables to make sure guests are enjoying themselves and their food.
And the food is terrific. The burgers, the reubens, the philly cheese steak, the grilled mahi sandwich are some of the best on island. The meatloaf is to die for and the fried chicken hits the spot. Top-notch steaks and dinner entrees are favorites. Great salads topped with teriyaki steak or grilled mahi or shrimp fill out the bill.
The booze flows fast and easy as does the talk around the classic long bar. It’s a hotspot for everyone from annoying gadflys to local aficionados who chat about everything from island politics, to foreign affairs, to the price of chips in China.
There is no place quite like No Bones on the Big Island. It’s a stellar destination for lunch or dinner. When you get off of work and need a place to unwind, you can grab a chair on the summer-cottage looking front porch, gaze out on the sunset and the boats in the marina, and have a glass or two of Cruzan Aged Dark Rum or order one of those “frozen concoctions that helps you hang on,”... and slip away.
