Gov. Bryan on Caribbean Trade Mission

USVI Governor Albert Bryan Jr. recently completed a successful trade mission to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, stopping in Barbados along the way. The trip was aimed to improve trade relations and explore opportunities for collaboration in various industries, particularly the burgeoning cannabis industry which the USVI is preparing to enter.

During the visit Gov. Bryan had the opportunity to hold discussions with the Honorable Saboto Caesar, Minister of Agriculture for St. Vincent and the Grenadines, reaching out for avenues in which the USVI could increase produce exports from St. Vincent to the Virgin Islands.

Gov. Bryan was invited to visit their world-certified cannabis operation by Minister Caesar. The tour showcased the advancements and potential of their medicinal cannabis cultivation. Which is already exporting to several European countries. The cannabis venture represents a significant new avenue for St. Vincent to expand its agricultural exports on a global scale.

In addition to the discussions on trade and cannabis, Gov. Bryan and Minister Caesar explored avenues for cooperation in other areas, including the exchange of sand and the facilitation of educational opportunities for students from St. Vincent to further their studies in agriculture and other industries in the Virgin Islands.

“Our visit has reaffirmed the strong bonds between our territories and highlighted exciting opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships,” Gov. Bryan stated optimistically. “I am confident that by our working together, we can harness the potential of our respective economies and create lasting prosperity for our people.”

In Barbados, Gov. Bryan toured various housing developments that used precast concrete in their construction. Precast concrete is a highly effective construction method that can erect a house’s structure in just one day and complete the entire construction process, including furnishing, within 60 days. This method offers a promising solution to expedite affordable housing construction in the USVI.

“We are committed to ensuring that all residents have access to safe, affordable housing options,” said Gov Bryan. “Exploring innovative construction methods like precast concrete will enable us to expedite the delivery of much-needed housing and improve the quality of life for our residents.”

The trip is another example of the Virgin Islands commitment to fostering regional cooperation in the Caribbean and pursuing economic growth and development opportunities.
