Eliana L Schuster-Brown

When we examine the art of Eliana L Schuster-Brown we are able to gather some insight into how a great artist’s imagination is capable of operating as a powerful and effective way in which to convey her message.
With her mixed-media painting “I am the Torch” that graces the front page of the St. Croix Woman section in the premiere edition of the St. Croix Times, we find an artist that seems to delight in sending the viewer’s imagination into uncharted Caribbean places. Ms. Schuster-Brown beckons us to redefine “Woman’ in a way that breathes new life into the meaning of being a woman. She trashes all the ill-conceived notions of what defined a woman in the past and replaces them with a new glory, a new torch, that burns as bright as any star in the Caribbean sky.
“My art represents strong West Indian women and Caribbean cultural elements transmuting them into visual stories left up to the viewer’s imagination,” Ms. Schuster-Brown told the St. Croix Times. “The ability to see snippets of my thoughts and dreams materialized and appreciated is one of the most rewarding things about being an artist.”
